Okay, when I was a kid my mom always said to be nice to everyone so I loved how smart and fucking cool Huey was, but hated how mean he was to Jasmine. All the little girl wanted was to be his friend, and Huey would often remind her that if he could leave her behind and return to Chicago he would. But I saw this and it became clear. Another thing my mom used to tell me was that it was hard to be loved when you don’t love yourself, and Jasmine did not love herself. She hated that her hair was not like her mother’s, straight and flowing all the time. Her parents didn’t get her to embrace who she was, and she constantly tried changing what made her who she was. So back to Huey. Huey, through all his rude but truth-filled insults to Jasmine, was trying to get Jasmine to love herself. Whether it was so one day he or another may do so as well, or so that she could finally wake up and be happy with who she was. Huey wanted Jasmine to love Jasmine. So somewhere in his heart Huey loved Jasmine too.
